So it rains on your wedding day.....

Sarah & Mike // Sanaview Farms

What do you do? You've spent months, maybe even years, meticulously planning every detail of your dream wedding. The big day arrives, and with it, a surprise guest, and it's not your parent's old neighbors from when they got married. There's rain in the forecast. I can hear the panic set in but I'm here to reassure you and tell you: Don't panic. At the end of the day, there is no controlling the weather but here are some things that you can control:

Make it a point when you are visiting venues to ask if they have a backup option in the event of inclement weather. Venues, like Sanaview Farms, have the option of moving the ceremony indoors or to a covered porch. If the option to move inside is not an option, does the venue offer to put up a tent to cover the ceremony? Renting tents can be costly, so it's wise to explore your options before making a decision.

Talk to your planner and vendors about a rain plan. Can the ceremony time be adjust to earlier or later in the day? Can the timeline be moved around for photos? For Sarah and Mike, they pushed the ceremony start time back to miss the worst of the rain. The sun came out just as they were pronounced husabnd and wife. Not only did the sun stay out long enough for formal portraits and bridal party portraits, the storm was kind enough to leave some pretty awesome clouds behind!

Purchase or have clear umbrellas and a change of shoes on stand by! You can check in with your photographer to see if they have clear umbrellas to use in the event of rain. For me, my clear umbrellas go with me on every wedding. Swapping out bridal shoes to rainboots is another way of staying comfy and dry on a rainy wedding day. You can even coordinate the boots with your wedding colors!

The most important tip yet....

Say f- it and embrace the weather! Rainy days mean you get to channel your inner Nicholas Sparks character and dance and smooch your spouse in the rain. Get some hot mulled wine or hot cocoa and cuddle up. If your dress gets muddy or wet, it just shows that you didn't let the rain stop you from having the best day ever. Your wedding day is about your love for each other and not the weather.
